Wellington, This Day. The Opposition caucus was held yesterday. 43 members were present, and two others represented. Sir George Grey formally announced his retirement, and nominated Mr. Macandrew as his successor, and added positively that he would not take office himself. The House met at 2.30. Mr. McLean gave notice that he would move next sitting day, that the Island of Kawau be included in some county for the. purpose of making it liable to taxation. Mr. Macandrew gave notice to move that the Government does not possess the confidence of the House. He said the Opposition were most desirous to proceed with the business, and if the Government would agree they would take the division at once, bat he would ' be satisfied with the assurance that the I question would be taken as the first order of the day next week. To this Ministers made no reply. After some questions had been replied to, Mr. Hall made a statement as to the order of business, and then moved the second reading of the Triennial Parlialiaments Bill. Mr. Sheehan said the silence of Ministers on Mr. Macandrew's notice of motion of want of confidence was extraordinary. He then moved the adjournment of the debate on Triennial Parliaments Bill till Tuesday.. A long discussion ensued, at the conclusion of which the Houtie divided as follows : — Foradjourning the debate,3B ; against it, 36. Mr.- Hall said that two of the supporters of the Ministry (Mr. Ormond and Captain Russell) were absent, and had not paired. Some further discussion ensued as to the day on which the debate should be resumed, the vote*before taking being according to the usage of the House for Bimply adjourning the debate.
