LONDON. October 8. ' Sir Stafford, Northcote, speaking at Dublin, said that the Cabul massacre necessitated a continued adherence to the present policy of the Government. He denied there was any difficulty with the Imperial finance, and deprecated agitation in Ireland. - An engagement between the Chillian and Peruvian fleet has taken place, during which the Huascar was captured. BOMBAY. October 8. A reconnoitring force and General Roberts was attacked by large masses of hostile tribes. *•■' The British column completely routed the assailants, and cleared . the heights. British loss in killed and wounded was 85, and that of the enemy very heavy.
