House of Representatives.
The House met at 2.30. The Speaker notified the receipt of petitions against the election of two members for the City of Auckland, West, and of Sir George Grey for Christchurch, the latter, petition being from Mr Richardson. It was ordered that tho petitions be considered on Friday. Sir George Grey announced that he had placed in the hands of the Governor, the resignations of himself and colleagues, which His Excellency had been pleased to accept, and to request that they would retain their positions until the new Ministry was formed. Mr Hall stated that the Governor had sent for him, and that he had undertaken to form a Ministry. He had intended asking the House to adjourn till Thursday, but as Sir George Grey required an Imprest Supply Bill to be passed, he would ask them to adjourn till the following day, and then till Friday, when he would be enabled to announce the formation of a Ministry which would command the approval of the House. • Sir George Grey, in seconding the motion, said he did so on a distinct understanding that he did not commit himself to an opinion that the new Ministry would command the approval of the House.
