DEFINITIONS OF "LIBERALISM."

Besides the several direct issues which are before the electors, such as " Grey or no Grey," "Ultra Liberalism v. Moderate Liberalism," "Free Trade and Immigration v. Protection," and the like, there are a number" of side issues being brought forward. The Roman Catholics have their cry lor denominationalism ; the Bible-in-sohools party have theirs; the temperance advooates theirs ; and it is even said that the publioans are to have their own candidate for Duedin to represent the " interest of licensed victuallers/' whatever these may be. As it will be impossible to have a candidate to represent each issue, the electors will require some guide in balancing the claims of the different aspirants. Will no one come forward to act as a sort of political chemist to analyse the various specimens somewhat as Dr.* Black analyses coal — e.g.., A 1, a very good sample of a Colonial politician ; solid, heavy, but dull ; burns without any brilliancy, and emits a peculiar odour.
