I really can see no reason why you should wish a personal friend of yours to lone a large sum of money by betting on Mr. McDonald, who is, I believe, also a personal friend, merely because you may differ from the leader of the party, whose politics are those of Mr. McDonald. I think you are very wise to avoid allowing politics to pervade every thought and prevent every wish. If one did so, life would be simply unbearable. I am, &c, Toleration.
