CORRESPONDENCE.
[VV»<lnnnt hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.] SPLITTING HAIRS. [To the Editor of the Herald.] Sir, — "Humbug " m to-day's Standard objects to your hoping that the. better of £100 to £5 on Mr. Allan McDonald would be justified. I really can see no reason why you should wish a personal friend of yours to lone a large sum of money by betting on Mr. McDonald, who is, I believe, also a personal friend, merely because you may differ from the leader of the party, whose politics are those of Mr. McDonald. I think you are very wise to avoid allowing politics to pervade every thought and prevent every wish. If one did so, life would be simply unbearable. I am, &c, Toleration.
