AUCKLAND.
This Day. The case against the captain and mate of the ship Minister of Marine, charged with cruelty to a seaman, named Alfred Colo, is still proceeding. It is proposed to form a Working Men's Political Association. The Thames monthly yield of gold for July has been smaller than for nearly three years. Being only 2,697 ounces. Mr. Ireland declines to come forward for City West. Mr. Blakey, Mayor of Onehunga, Avill not contest that seat with Mr. G. M. O'Rorke. Mr. P. A. Whitaker will probably be a candidate for Eden. A deputation waited on Mr. Reader Wood, soliciting him to stand for Waitomata, and on being assured that Mr. W. J. Hurst was not supported by the Ministry, he consented.
