WELLINGTON.
-This Day. Mr. Luck has retired from the contest for Hutt. Mr. Levin, one of the candidates for the city, addressed a large meeting in Adelaide Road, last night, and received a unauimous vote of confidence. Hon. Colonel Whitmore left for Napier yesterday. Sir G. Grey goes as far south as Invercargill, making speeches in all the centres of population. Lady Robinson accompanied His Excellency, the Governor, to Nelson yesterday to see their son, who is at college there. They return to-morrow. The City of Sydney, with London July mails, left 'Frisco on August 4th, contract date. The Australia, with Colonial mails, arrived at 'Frisco on August 13th, one day in advance of due date. The insurance agents have decided to double fire insurance rates, owing to the defective water supply.
