This Day. Mr. George Fisher, a Hansard reporter, announces himself a candidate for the city. ' A cable message states that the Union Company's steamer Jbiotomahaiia, left London on the 9th instant, and is expected to arrive m Melbourne about tue 24th. of September. A writ for £JOUU lias been served on Mr; George -Dairell at the instance of ihe Saturday Advertiser for alleged libel contained iv a haudbill circulated m the Wellington Theatre Royal by Mr. Darrell. ' It is stated that Mr. Darrell intends to issue a writ against the Advertiser for £50U0 for a libel on him. At a large mooting last evening it was resolved to form a .Liberal Association, and thai the following be the principles : — Shorter duration of Parliament; extension of the franchise ; re-disiribu-tion of electorates, with a view of making the representation as nearly as possible proportionate to population ; re-aiTiiiigtiUient of taxation upon a fair and equicaulo principle ; laws for sale and uiaiiagtmiem of Uruwn and Native lands, sucii as will promote settlement, and prevent monopoly and a vigorous prosecution ot public works. . A committee formed to arrange for the establishment of similar associations lv the districts. Tiie Post states that as soon as the Loan liill passed, the fact was cabled to Csir Julius Yogel and the (Jrown Agents, and that tno Government had received a reply that no difficulty was likely to be experienced m floating the loan, and that any amount required iv anticipation of the loau could be readily obtained. " A committee of clerks and messengers are going to present Mr. O'Rorke with a handsome illuminated address iv recognition of his services m procuring them half pay during the recesß. The writs for the new elections will be issued within the next four days, and made returnable by the 17th September next. The Premier and Native Minister will I visit Nelson m a few days. It is understood that the Premier will start his electioneering campaign there.
