ELECTION INTELLIGENCE EXTRAORDINARY.

[To the Editor of the Herald.] Sir,— Now that Mr. John Villers, of Orniond, is becoming such a prominent man m public affai^, 1 really think it behoves him to provide himself with a secretary or amanuensis, who could keep some slight check on his glowing imagination, and help him to put his public notifications into better form than that which appeared m this morning's issue of our contemporary. I was not aware that the electors of the East Coast, had, as a body, conferred on Mr. Yillers the honour of requesting him to stand as their member, but suppose it must have been so, or little Johnny would not have bo publicly and "heartily" thanked them. I can only say that m my own name, and- that of several other electors, who, by some accident were not asked to join m conferring the honour, &c, &c. I must express my sorrow that the many calls upon Mr. -Villers' valuable time, will not allow that gentleman to take the seat he would so gracefully have filjed, feeling sure, as j I do, that he would have carried into the House of Representatives the., courteous manner and never-failirtg j urbanity with which nature bo cqnspicuously has gifted him. And -sir, it is not only the electors of the district who will suffer by Mr. Villers' much-to-be lamented diciaion ; the country at lai-ge has sustained a heavy, and I am afraid, irreparable, loss, for the ingenuity which enables Mr. Villers to withdraw his name from the list of candidates, where it never has been, would if properly directed, have achieved great results. — I am, &c, A Modest Elector. Gisborne, August 12th 1879.
