MELBOURNE CUP BETTING.

A considerable amount of business has been trauaacted in Melbourne on the approaching race season. The New Zealand horse, Le Loup, has been backed for nearly £30,000, leaving off on the 4th instant, at 1000 to 50 taken. The first wager was 1000 to 350. Another New Zealander. Fishhook, has been backed for £20,000 at 100 to 3 and 4. Soupe Garons, nephew of Mullyan, has been backed for over £10,000, at 100 to 3, and a number of others at prices given below. In the Metropolilion Stakes, 10 to 1 is offered on the field, while Nellie is a strong favourite for the A. J.O. Derby. The Champagne Stakes have already been operated upon, 100 to 10 having been taken about First King, the same about Mullyan, and 2000 to 100 agstFirst Water. The following are full quotations : — A.
