The Maori King at the Meeting.

This Day. The Te Kopua native meeting took place yesterday afternoon. About 3000 natives were present. Tawkaio was attended by a guard of 180 armed men. When all had been seated, Tawhaio spoke. He asked the people to listen to his words. Potatau, his father, was chief of tnis Island. There was also Rewi. The land was his (Tawhaio's), Grey had no right to conduct matters in this land. They must not have fighting. There was not to be any fighting about roads, leases or anything eke. Waihanui called upon all to listen to Tawhaio. Te Huheu also asserted Tawhaio's words.
Major Kemp said visitors had not spoken.
Major Te Wheoro and Te Ngakau have spoken, and the meeting broke up to assemble again to-day.
