May 5. There is nothing new here, except a rumour that Tawhaio has quietly left for Hikurangi, to avoid the meeting. This is not credited ; if it were true, the mission would be fruitless, and Rewi forced into an estrangement for a time, in consequence of the disrespect shown by Tawhaio to his guests. Te Kooti's people came in file . this morning, but only to the number of some 35, bringing two biscuits each as an offering to Sir George Grey. It is raining heavily, and the place is very uncomfortable.
