NAPIER.

This Day. The inaugural meeting of the Hawke's Bay Racing Club came off to-day. A large concourse of persons assembled on the Pakowhai race course to witness the performances of the horses entered for the several events. The trains from Waipukurau and Waipawa were crowded each trip. The day was wonderfully fine, and, as, a whole, the events were well and spiritedly contested.

Sinking Fund 1 Little Wonder 2 Lara 3 [The above were received by us at 3.35, being conveyed from the course by means of carrier pigeons to Napier, and thence immediately telegraphed to us.]
