PALACE SHELTERS

SAFETY FOE EOYAL FAMILY Bomb-proof and gas-proof chambers have been prepared in the cellars beneath Buckingham Palace to accommodate all those who live or work in the palace during air raids. There are more than a quarter of a mile of corridors linking up the cellars and both corridors and cellars have been strengthened by steel girders and stout timber baulks. On of tho largest of the underground clambers has , been converted into a room for the use of the King and Queen and the two Princesses, and it has been furnished cosily so that they may remain in it for some time without discomfort . Air-raid precautions lave also been taken at-Marlborough House, the home of Queen Mary, It is understood that some time ago it was suggested to her that she should leave London in wartime, and tiat she refused to do this.
