An interesting little ceremony took place at the I’atea District High School on Wednesday last, when the teachers and pupils assembled to bid farewell to Miss Carrel, who is to be married shortly. Prior to the ceremony, Miss Joyce Marshall presented Miss Carrel with a dainty bouquet of pale pink and white flowers. Mr Matthews (headmaster), in a brief speech, expressed the regret of one and all at losing Mias Carrel, who during the two years ehe had taught at the school, had gained the respect and admiration of all. He expressed his appreciation of the good work done by Miss Carrel whilst on the staff, and on behalf of the teachers and pupils of flic school, wished her every happiness and prosperity in the future. Miss Hetty Peterson, on behalf of the teachers and pupils, then presented Miss Carrel with a beautiful Doulton bowl and teapot. Miss Carrol, in thanking the teachers and children for their handsome present, said she hoped to see them all frequently, as she would not be far away. After the ceremony, Miss Carrol was the guest of the staff at a dainty afternoon tea. The singing of “Auld Lang Sync" In-ought a pleasant little function to a close.
