PATEA BOROUGH COUNCIL

SPECIAL MEETING. Engineer Appointed. A special meeting of the Patea Borough Connoil was held in the Council Chambers on Monday night.

Ora Grainger, Bennett, Egan, Hooey, field and Eamsbottom being present. In the absence of his Worship the Mayor, who was unable (o attend through illness, Cr Grainger was voted to the chair. The minutes of the previous special meeting were read and confirmed*

The special resolution instituting special order levying special rate for interest and other charges on General Purposes Loan of £SOOO was passed on the motion of Or Grainger seconded by Cr Bennett. Ihe resolution was put and carried. Tbs action of the Chairman of the Electric Lighting Committee in ap» pointing Mr Lawson as assistant was confirmed.

It was unanimously resolved that the thanks of the Council be tendered to Messrs Evans and Hanger for the assistance rendered by them in connection with lighting matters recently. The o.unoil then went into com mittee to consider applications for the position of engineer,

On resuming it was reported that Mr E. G. Davis had been appointedThe report was adopted. It was resolved that the permanent appointment of an assistant to tbe engineer be left to the Lighting Committee with power to act. Municipal Pictures. It was decided that the question of establishing Municipal Pictures be deferred until the next ordinary meeting of the Council.
