PERSONAL.
The Hoa. W< H. Herries, Minister of Railways, passed through Fates by the mail train yesterday en route for Stratford and Whangamomona. The Minister was met at the Station by the Mayor and several Councillors, and also by the President and members of the Chamber of Commerce who enjoyed a few minutes conversation with Mr Herries, but no matters affecting the district were brought officially before him.
Mr W. H. Bennett, Managing Director of the South Taranaki Shipping Company has we under* stand, been offered and accepted the position of manager of the newly formed Wellington Waterside Employment Association at a salary of £6OO per annum. Mr Bennett will take up his new duties at the beginning of August, by which date it is hoped that the Association will be able to commence operations on the waterfront.
The Daily News states that Mr W. F. Shield, son of Mr J. Shield, rf Whennakura, who has for the past six or seven years been .olerk in the Government grader’s office at Moturoa, has severed his connection with the Agricultural Department, and left yesterday for Fatea: Mr Shield will in future be associated with his father in law, Mr E. C. Horner, who is olerk to the Fatea County Council and secretary of the Harbour Board, Hospital Board, and numerous other local bodies,
