CORRESPONDENCE.
» ■ — Wo do not hold ourselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents TO TIIE EDITOR Sir, —I notice in your issne of Friday last a leading article re the Waverley loin scheme. I d) not know why you should devote this space to giving advice
o tho Chairman and ratepayers of Vaverley as it certainly is not wanted. I an only suppose that you mean well, but t is quite obvious that not living in Wavrley and getting most of your information rom hearsay, that you are not in a lOßition to commeot on the works now in hpre. As Chairman of the "own Board I feel that your attempt to idvise on the position that has arisen here 3 both uncalled for and in rather bad
aste. In fact to put it quite plainly yon ire interfering in a subject about which 'ou have no concern. You certainly have aken advantage of the opportunity to ;ive Mr Climie a good advertisement at a heap rate. With regard to this [sntleman's report' the ratepayers icre have learned nothing new from
t and as a great deal of it has already >een shown to ba incorrect owiug to Mr limio not having sufficient information o work on, I hardly see where we have jot value for the twenty fi?e guineas
expended. With regard to the actual state of affairs, wo in Waverley do not seem to be nearly so much put out as some of the citizens of neighbouring towns profess to be. We know quite well how the different matters stand and I can say I am as well pleased as ever with the scheme as a whole. In the meantime yon can rest quite assured that we in Waverley will have a splendid household supply of water and oue quite adequate for fire prevention purposes long before some towns of a similar size will bo able to enjoy the same privilege, also that when complete! in the near future our
electric lighting plant will not ba on out of dule lines but will be ono of the
most modern and up to dt.fce plants iu New Z’alaid. Th .• whole tenor of your remarks is (hat y u Pel rather sorry for the ratepayers of Waverleyi However you have no need to worry over Waverley affairs. Wo feel quite able to look after our own business and furthermore we imagine you have quite enough to cio to push on the m uh needed improvements so long delayed in your own town. —I am, etc , I E. P. Palmer, | Chairman Waverley Town Board.
[Wo publish tho above letter from Mr Palmer gbidly, though wo must confess that it carrion very little information to the ratepayers, who we rather think will want 'c know why, when un Engineer was enxnged by a resolution passed by a uinjority of the Boird, the Chuirman did not se to it that he was supplied with the fullest information obtainable so that the rate payers could got the beat value possible for the twenty-five guineas expended. Mr Palmer should remember that he is eleoted to carry out tho wishes of the majority of tho Board and not ra?rely those things which aocord with his particular views. Ed. Prkss]
