The second day’s races of the Victorian Racing Club’s Autumn meeting was held to-day at Flemmgton. ihe weather was fine, and there was a fair attendance of spectators, The Governor was not present to-day. The Australian Cup, 2\ miles, was won by Ringwood, with Sheet Anchor second, and Minerva third. Coronet, winner of Newmarket Handicap, was nowhere, It was a splendid race. Time, Train l£sec. Malua has been scratched for all events this meeting. For the Australian Cup, Stornoway was third, not Minerva ns previously telegraphed. The betting at the post was even on Coronet, who led from the start, and was a dozen lengths ahead at the river, being however beaten at the sheds, and collapsing at the home turn, where Ringwood came up with a rush and won by three-quarters of a length from Sheet Anchor, after a most exciting race. (Received 6th, 1.25 p.m.) This day. Arrived, this morning, Orient R.M.fe. Potosi, from Plymouth, Jan 23. Steamship Rotorua, from Bluff. ADELAIDE, This day. The South Australian Government have received a telegram from the Colonial office saying that if the colony independently or conjointly will despatch a force in time to arrive at Snakim by September, the Imperial Government will gladly accept its services. Enquiry is also made os to the number, description, and training of the proffered troops, and great stress is laid upon the importance of the whole contingent drilling together for at least a month. Governor Jervois has been cordially received here by all classes.
