HOME AND FOREIGN. [REUTER —COPYRIGHT. J (Received April 6, 6 p.m.) LONDON, April 3. The Eight Hon. John Bright is suffering from slight congestion of the lungs. The body of the late Duke of Albany will roach Portsmouth to-day. (Received April 7, noon.) April 5. The body of his late Royal Highness, the Duke of Albany, was entombed to-day in the mausoleum at Prograore, Windsor. Her Majesty the Queen and various members of the royal family attended the ceremony, which was of a most solemn and impressive character. Among the wreaths placed on the Prince's coffin, was one forwarded by the Agent-General on behalf of the Colonics. Further parleying which has been proceeding between the representatives of England and Spain, with a view of concluding a fresh commercial treaty has proved fruitless, and negotiations have now ceased. Telegrams are to hand announcing that the steamship Daniel Stcitrnann 1790 tons, from Antwerp has become a total wreck off the coast of Nova Scotia, and a hundred and twenty persons have been drowned.
AUSTRALIAN. [REUTER —COPYRIGHT.] MELBOURNE, April 4. The second class passenger, who was killed at the Little River railway accident, has been indentified as Mrs Johnson, of South Australia, An inquest was held to-day on the bodies of the victims of the Little River railway accident, but in view of the strict investigation into the disaster which is about to be held here, ifie verdicts returned were merely of a formal nature. The Navigation Board inquiry into the alleged race between the steamers Wairarapa and Adelaide in February last will be commenced here on Saturday next. (Received April 6, 6 p.m.) April 6. To-day has been observed as a day of general mourning throughout the colony for the late Duke of Albany. The majority' of the citizens of Melbourne wore dressed in black. Flags were flown on all the public buildings at half-mast, (Received April 7, 12.55 p.m.) This day. The persons wounded by the recent railway accident are all progressing favourably towards recovery. The members of the Board of Enquiry have inspected the scene of the disaster. SYDNEY, April 4. ouuvvers of rain, win oh for some time past have been greatly needed, have been experienced here, and the fall has been pretty general throughout the country districts. (Received April 7th, 12.55 p.m.) This day. Heavy rain has fallen pretty generally throughout the Colony, and the empty dams have been replenished. The downpour in Sydney has been exceptionally heavy, fully 10 inches having been recorded since the 4lh. Parts of the city are flooded, and some damage has resulted. The intermittent supply of water to the city and suburbsjhas now been restored.
Bishop Barry preached at the Anglican Cathedral yesterday. The sermon was most eloquent, and made special mention of the late Prince Leopold. At the Hawkcsbury Race Club’s Autumn meeting on Saturday, the Handicap was won by Empress, with Phyllis second, and Sardonyx third. Twelve horses started. Empress, the favourite, won easily. The Maiden Plate was won by Bargo. BRISBANE, April 4.
The revenue returns for the quarter ended 31st March were published today. The revenue for the quarter amounted to £590,000, being an increase of £34,5000 as compared with the corresponding period of last year. The land revenue for tho three months shows a decrease of £37,500, but the receipts from all other sources have improved.
