MONEY MARKET. Messrs Cbas Pownall and Co., Scriveners, Wellington, report. The money market has been in an unsettled state during the last month, while few transactions of any importance have offered, to necessitate any increase in ■value. The rate of interest must sow be per cent higher, viz., from 7} to & per cent, according to the amount required. The local supply of capital is still limited, and in Australia full rates continue to be realized. In London money has again fallen to 3J per cent, but as we hear of no further large consignments for Mortgage Investments from that source, we see little prospect at present of any abatement in our quotations.
