The Powers are now taking active measures to suppress the .Anarchists, many of whom are flying to London for safety. The health of the Right Hon. H. Childers is impaired, and he has been ordered by his medical advisers to take a trip abroad. The Hon. Mr Gladstone has positively declined to amend the Arrears of Rent Bill. (Received November 28, 10 p.m.) November 20. News has been received here that a detective lias been shot at and killed in Dublin by a Fenian. The murderer was, however, wounded by the police, and arrested with two others, after a severe struggle, H. R.H. the Duke of Edinburgh has. now recovered from (he attack of bronchitis with which lie was recently seized. Obituary—Jamcß Lillywhite, the wellknown cricketer. November 27. Further details regarding the murder yesterday of a detective in Dublin are to hand. It is now known that the encounter took place in the city between a gong of ten men who are stated to be Fenians, and a party of six detectives, during which one of the latter was shot and mortally wounded. His comrades fired upon the murderer and wounded and captured him. A desperate struggle ensued, but the police ultimately effected the arrest of four of the gang. A strict inquiry is now being made into the affair, which has caused great, excitement and dismay in the city. The capture of the remainder of the gang has not yet been effected. In the election which has taken place for the vacancy in the representation of Cambridge in the House of Commons, the Right Hon. H. C. The sculling race for the Krug Champagne Trophy was rowed to-day, and won easily by Gaden, Brett secondhand Sharland third.

The Tasmanian sculling match between Edward Trickett and Clifford, for £IOO a side, was won easily by the latter hy several lengths.
