(per press association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 23. The Mayors of Christchurch, Sydenham, and St. Albans were all re-elected to-day without opposition. Four drunken shearers on a spree bailed up the railway station at Waikari to-da}', and created so much disturbance and annoyance that the police had to be sent for. Two of the shearers were arrested, and the other two had escaped before the police arrived. The electrical fire alarm system is now completed, and the boxes all placed in position. The executive committee of the Railway League this evening decided to raise a subscription to defray the expenses of the League. A report on the whole question of .the Bast and West Coast question was drawn up for presentation to the Commission. A long resolution' was passed expressing disappointment at the inability, of the Commission to take (he West Coast line into consideration, and asking Government. to either appoint a new Commission or extend the scope of the present one., DUNEDIN, Nov. 23. Mr Butler lias announced himself as a candidate for the Peninsula vacaucyin the House of Representatives. Mr Larnach is also out. There was good weather for the Agricultural Show yesterday, and a good attendance for the first day. The cattle, sheep, and implements we're judged by Mr Menlovc, of Oamaru, and the New Zealand and Agricultural Company took the principal honours in shorthorns, and the Hon. R. Campbell in merino sheep. The show of Aj-rshires Was exceedingly good. In implements, Messrs Reid and Gray took the principal prizes. Draught horses were not so good as in previous years except in young stock. Le Loup took first prize for thoroughbreds.
