They appear to entertain opposite views in Otago and Wellington of the definition of . a'hawker. In the former province, as we have recorded, the travelling agent of a sewing machine firm refused to pay a license, and the law, or rather the magistrate, upheld him. In Wellington, another agent was fined £5 for selling his machines without a license, and carried the case to the Supreme Court. Judge Richmond has taken two weeks for consideration of the point, A very nasty accident happened on Friday evening to a lad in otlr employ named Davis. He was returning on horseback from Waverley after delivering the Mail when the horse slued at a pig, and immediately after galloped oil at a headlong pace. Davis was thrown and remained in an insensible state upon the road for some time. On recovering, he managed to regain possession of the horse and walked into.town where he arrived at 12 o’clock. His face is considerably swelled, and it is a matter for wonder that greater injuries were not sustained. J
