Football.

A match between Patca and Waverlcy teams was played on Saturday afternoon, at Waverley. The ground was not in good condition, being soft and cut up with cart track across centre. Patca won the toss, and decided to play with the wind. Nicholson kicked off for Waverley, and after several heavy scrimmages the ball was kicked behind the Waverlcy goal, being well followed np by Powell, who secured a try for Patca. A protest was entered against the try, but the umpires, Messrs Pringle and Seed, allowed the try, Cootes kicked the goal from the try. In the second spoil, some good runs were made by the quarter and half-backs, neither side scoring. In the third spell Patca kicked off, and Nicholson made a good run up fhc field, when heavy scrimmaging took place near the Patca goal) Turner (Waverley) carrying the ball through the party and securing a try for Waverley, which was missed by Nicholson ; time called. In the last spell, Waverley kicked off, and Hcennn made a splendid run up the field, getting within a few yards of the goal, when he was collared by Robinson, and scrimmaging went on till time was called. Patea gained one goal to Waverley one tiy, Patca winning the match by three points. The play was rough throughout, several men being injured to some extent, Turner getting the small hone of his leg broken. Ilolditch and Turner, from Wanganui, played with the Waverley team.
