Says the Taranaki Herald ;—Oii Good Friday, the Rev. Father Lampilia, with his characteristic kindness, gave a beggar half, a-crown. The beggar grew bold and ovorfamiliar and robbed the church. On Easter Monday, the Rev. T. G. Hammond was scon to give another beggar a halfcrown in the street near this office. The hatter man, on Thursday night, tried the windows and door of a private residence between eleven and twelve o’clock at night, and was subsequently lodged by Constable Doherty for the night in the lock-up. When arrested he was in a half drunken state, but was conscious enough, and made the most of his position under the verandah where ho took up his night’s lodgings, having emptied a largo bag of flock rags which ho strewed over his body. The figure he presented to the constable was something hideous, wo believe, his dirty face only being seen. We are happy to state that both “ poor beggars” arc being properly cared for by Mr. Bosworth ; and the public need not fear them for a few months at least.
