AN AFFECTING TALE.
A very narrow escape is said by the “ Townsville Times” (Queensland) to have boon made by a man and boy who went ont from the Houghton Hotel in search of hoiscs. The man was Cobh and Co.’s groom, and he was accompanied by a little fellow of about seven years of ago. They went on clay after day, and it was not till they had been out about live days that the hoy began to complain, lie lirst said that he was hungry and would like to go homo. After a day or two more be seemed to begin to doubt the trustworthiness of ids companion, ami asked him if he knew the way homo. The man told him he did not, and the. boy said that ho would ask God to show them the way, and immediately knelt down and did so. On the morning of the 11th day they came across a waterhole which the man thought he knew, but he afterwards found that he was in a strange place. Both were very much disheartened, and the man said to the noy that he had no hope of getting homo, ami that their graves would be by the waterbolo. The youngster said, “ I cannot die here ; what will my mother do ? I’ll ask God again to bring ns home.” They started forward, and on the evening of the same day struck country that was familiar, and got homo on the following day without any other assistance or adventure. They were thus twelve days lost in the bush, and the pluck of the little boy in the awfully embarassing circumstances which prostrated the energies even of the grown man cannot be too highly praised.
