[Peu Pkess Agencv.] WELLINGTON. April 15. The plasterers at the new Government Buildings have been refused the additional shilling per day, and will be on strike after to-day. April 18. It is understood that the Government have been for some time considering the whole question, relating to the prohibition of importing cattle. When last the matter Avas brought before the House of lleprcsentatives, it was decided that prohibition was not necessary, and that a system of quarantine would suffice. The question is virtually re-opened by the decision, after much deliberate consideration of all the other Australasian Colonies to continue prohibition for an indefinite period. Under these circumstances the Government have decided to invite the consideration' of both Houses on the matter, by relegating it to' the deliberations of a joint select committee. This intention is thus early notified, in order that all who are interested in the question may endeavor to make their views known. CH KISTCII UItCII. April 18. Three wore left at Levnka, and three in all have died. Further particulars relate that Captain Stevens ami the sailors wore not oflicially present at the meeting on the 13th March. There was no hostility expected. Eleven natives were killed and 35 wounded. The engagement lasted 20 minutes. Stcinborger preferred being loft at Levnka instead of going to Auckland. A civil war in Samoa is expected. DUNEDIN. April 15. The Times says the Provincial Executive is in a financial dilemma, and there is no little fear that they will extricate themselves by selling large quantities of hind in big blocks The Supremo Court sat until half-past eleven last night, and Bird’s case against the National Bank was adjourned till Wednesday. The holidays have interfered with business in the grain market. Wheat, 4s. 7d. for choice ; 4s. 4d. to 4s.Gd. for good milling. Oats, Is. lid. for prime, and Is. 9d. to Is. lUd. for good feed. TIM ABU. April 16. A fire broke out at 1 o’clock this morning in a cottage occupied by a man named Sydney Jones and a woman known as Nellie Duncan. On the neighbourhood being alarmed and assistance arriving, Jones and another man named Butler, were seen lying outside a live fence, the former raving and drunk, and the latter sound and in a drunken sleep. The police took charge of them. After the fire was nearly done the charred remains of a woman near a heel, supposed to be Nellie Duncan, wore found. A drunken row was heard in the house shortly before the fire.
