FURTHER PROGRESS
MANGATAINOKA SCHOOL RE-BUILDING REGARDED AS URGENT Mr K. J. Holyoake, Member for Puhiutua, in furtherance ot his lomise to do his utmost to impress upon the .Minister of Education, Hen. H. G. R. Mason, the urgency o' a new school at Mangataiuoka, ha* shown that he is pressing the n stter fully. Recently we published the context of a letter of acknowledgement from the Minister, and l.ow have received from Mr Holyoake a copy of a further communication firm the Minister. Hon. Air Mason writes as follows tn the Member for Pailuatuu: “In continuation of my letter of tin 29th September, having referei ee to the re-building of the Alaugrtainoka School, I have to inform you that an application for a grant to cover the cost of the new tworoomed school at Mangataiuoka has been received from the Wellington Education 13oard. This ease is regarded by the Department as one cf the urgent cases in tjie Wellington District and the plan is at present receiving consideration. As soon as furthe** progress in the matter has been made I shall have pleasure in communicating with you again.” Few people in this district can have a real conception of the shocking state of the Mangatainoka School building. It is enough to say that leakage of rain into th© school on occasions has necessitated the boring of holes in the flooring to allcw the aater to flow away. This is almost incredible, particularly from the health point of view, and it is no tribute to our sanity and sen *3 of proportion that not 100 miles f.om the oecrepit building, we have built luxury edifices to house foreign ii-ternees
There ere 62 children at present on the roll of the Mangatainoka School in the care of two teachers. Tlie seriousness of the position must be brought most emphatically before the notice of the Government in support of Mr Holyoake s good offices to date.
