COMBINED MEETING
AT RONGOMAI. The quarterly combined meeting of the Mangaorie branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union and the Rongomai Patriotic Committee was held on the 13th instant in the Rongomai Hall. The attendance was not large owing to ihe indisposition of several members, while the bad weather conditions prevented others from attending. Miss White, President of the Women’s of the Patriotic Committee, occupied the chair. A letter of thanks from the Reclamation of Waste Society thanking the Rongomai group for its good work was received. Several letters from soldiers overseas were read, and these proved very interesting, particularly one from a prisoner-of-war in Germany, expiessing grateful thanks and appreciation* for parcels received. He said how glad be was to receive warm wooden clothes which were a great boon during the cold winter months. Following the Patriotic meeting the Women’s Division of the Far .iters’ Union held their meeting, Mrs F. B. Lowes, President of the Ma igaone branch, presiding. Several interesting items were read from papers re the purchase of two- mere rest homes at Nelson, and arrangements are in train to allow of farmers and their wives to spend their vacations at these rest homes. The President, Mr s Lowes gave a most interesting report on her visit to the W D.F.U. meeting at Masterton. It was resolved that a donation of £1 be made to the Makogai Leper Fund.
Mrs B. Evans was appointed Librarian, in place of Mrs L Eagle, who has left the district. Afternoon tea concluded a pleasant afternoon.
