DROWNING TRAGEDY

One man was drowned and two others reached' the shore only after clinging to a boat for an hour when a dinghy, in which they were fishing, overturf.ed at the mouth of the V hau (’.reek on Saturday evening The drowned man. was Hector Henry Smith, 29, married, boilermaker, of Pt. Chevalier. Smith went out in an Bft dinghy with two companions and when lie stood up to cast his line tit© boat overturned, throwing all three into the water. One of the other men attempted to catch his friend, but had to desist when the fishing lines became entangled round h|is legs. For over an hour the other two men clung to the overturned dinghy until it drifted into shallow water. Then they walked two miles through, shallows to a farmhouse where they arrived suffering from severe shock and exposure. An extensive search was made for Smith’s body i*y Ajr Fore© planes and a police launch but without result.
