FULL SCALE BREAK THROUGH

RUSSIAN TANKS ON DON FRONT CRASHING THROUGH DEFENCE LINES RED ARMY IN UKRAINE United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, Dec. 23. Russian tanks have effected a lull-scale break-through on the iuiddlo Don front. Correspondents this morning flashed the news from Moscow .that Soviet tank columns have now crashed through tlie German defence lilies and reached the open steppes. Russian troops yesterday, following up the tanks, drove the Germans relentlessly on to the south and southeast. A special Soviet communique last night announced the capture of Kamensko. It is not yet clear whether this is the town of that name (also spelled Kameiiskoyei), which is or. the Donetz, 40 miles south of Millerovo, and within IGO miles of Rostov, but the news of the big tank break-through seems to indicate that it verv likely is. If so it is big news. Other towns whose capture was announced included Morozovka. which is on the railway below Kamensko. The Red Army has now actually recrossed the frontier of the Ukraine. (On the basis of the previous Russian communique, the Red Army force nearest to; Kamensko was then north 0 f Millerovo. Thus a specially great now advance is implied in this area, either from the north or north-east.)
