GANDHI'S BIRTHDAY
POLICE TAKE PRECAUTIONS. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. BOMBAY. October 2. Gandhi is aged 73 today, for which reason Bombay police pickets are posted at strategic positions. In expectation of trouble dining the projected celebrations the police last night arrested persons likely to cause disturbances. Shops, business houses, and tli© markets are closed* in Bombay. Congress flags ar© prominent and also “Quit India” costers. The police fired two warning rounds to disperse a crowd stoning a Bombay mill which Avas working today. no one injured but, some arrests wer© made. Students formed a procession in Bombay and attempted to stop office workers going to work. Meagre reports received this afternoon indicate that disturbances spread through villages. Girl students are selling flags and distributing leaflets.
