PAHIATUA BOROUGH COUNCIL

FINANCE COMMITTEE REPORT. The Finance Committee presented the following report to Monday's Borough Council meeting:— Regarding purchase of truck.— The Town Clerk reported that the Audit Office had advised that the procedure now being adopted by the Council (viz., purchase through the Alain Highways Board) meets with, the approval of the Audit Office. Regarding outstanding rates, A. P. Fox Estate.—The Town Clerk reported that the Public Trustee had advised that as a result of the satisfactory realisation of the stock-in-trade it is estimated that the creditors will receive a dividend of approximately 12s in the £. State Advances Corporation of New Zealand, regarding rental State houses.— The State Advances Corporation advised that the following j State houses in Albert, Street have been occupied, viz. : On 16th Febru- j ary, 1939, Air R. E. Bridge; on 11th j Alarch, 1939, Air H. C. Fryer. The j Town Clerk reported that as the . State housing properties are only i liable for full rates during the ac- J tual period when each State house ; is occupied, that it is desirable that separate valuations he obtained for ; each house property. j Street lighting.—The following information was received in connection with the proposed installation of Vapour, etc.—Palmerston North j City Council: A mercury vapour lamp of 400 watt capacity costs approximately £23 installed. The Council has used with success a Sierav > dual lamp of 500 watts, which \ screws into the ordinary street light 1 fitting and first cost is £5 and re- | placement cost is £3 per lamp. The annual cost of electricity depends on the wattage and period of lighting. 1 Masterton Borough Council: Under contract with Wairarapa Electric Power Board, annual charge for the 400 watt Mercury Vapour lamps is i £l4 including power and main ten- * ance. Providing the cost of erection does not exceed £3O per lamp, there is no extra charge to the Council.
