DUST FROM DUMP

COMPLAINT TO COUNCIL. The following letter from G. A. Woodfield and Airs E. I. Toole, Crewe Street, was read at lastnight’s Borough Council meeting: •At your next Council meeting 1 would be very pleased if you would make known to fellow-councillors that the present site of the Borough shingle pit is a source of annoyance to myself and next door neighbour. Jn windy weather the sand and dust nuisance is verv bad, particularly as it enters our homes, making it" impossible to have windows open. The sand-fly problem is bad too, so we would deem it a favour if you would find a more suitable place to store your shingle in future. We would suggest that outside the Borough w quid be a suitable place, as a shingle pit in a residential area does not add to the beauty of a town. Within the past week fresh loads of shingle have been placed right against my house, and as a ratepayer I object to this - , and trust that it will be discontinued in future.”

The Town Clerk said that the Borough shingle dump in Huia Street was referred to.

The Mayor reported that the Works Committee had looked for another site, and had chosen Queen Street, a place over the bridge and not used by traffic, which would be very useful for that side of the town.

Cr. Carthew asked if it was true that shingle had been dumped alongside the house.

The Town Clerk replied that it had been along one fence. The Works Committee; lie said would be only too pleased to find another dump, but the contract with the carter. Air Pearcey, laid down that it must not be more than half a mile from the river-bed. The matter was referred to the Works Committee.
