THE BOROUGH TRUCK

COUNCIL NOT ALLOWED TO BUY ON HIRE PURCHASE SYSTEM.

The Mayor (Mr S. K. Siddells), commenting at last night’s Borough Council meeting on a letter written to the Alain Highways Board seeking to arrange the transfer of the Council's liability on the truck from the International Harvester Co., Ltd.. to the Alain Highways Board in prder that the Audit Department’s requirements may be satisfied, reported that the auditor had informed the Town Clerk that the Council iiad no authority to borrow from anyone except through the Alain Highways Board, and instead of doing this, the Borough truck had been bought on the hire purchase system from the International Harvester Co., although the Council had signed no promissory notes. The Council still had a liability for £SOO with the Harvester Co. The Town Clerk, on the advice of the auditor, had suggested to the Alain Highways Board that they take over the Council’s liability on a four-year term.
