SURPRISE GIFT EVENING
FOR .MISS MARY PEAR3E. A large number of friends turned up unexpectedly at the residence of Mr and Mrs L G. Pearse, Maugataiiioka, oil Thursday evening for a surprise gift evening to their daughter, Miss Mary Pearse, whose marriage to Mr Jim Taylor takes place shortly. Miss Pearse was the recipient of many beautiful and useful gifts, together with the best wishes of the donors. On behalf of the company, Mr Bert Michael congratulated the engaged couple on their approaching marriage and sincerely wished them every happiness in their married life. Mr Tav lor replied, thanking all friends for their generous gifts and kind wishes. The evening was spent in games, dancing to music supplied by Mrs Rusden, and singing, solos by Mr L. Russell being much appreciated, and a very happy evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
