PAHIATUA TELEPHONE LIST.
PALMERSTON N. SEEK TO HAVE IT ADDED TO MANA.WATU BOOK Electric Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N. Feb. 9, Representations are being made by the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce to the Chief Postmaster in Palmerston North, Mr. A. N. Wallace. to have the Dannevirke and Pahiatua lists of telephone subscribers included in the Marawatu list. Some years a so, through the persistence of the Chamber Bulls was included in the Manawatu list and business men are hopeful that the present claims will be as su&cessfu?. It is considered by business men that Palmerston North is more of the business centre of Dannevirke and Pahiatua, as the city is closer than either Dannevirke is to Hastings or Napier in Hawke’s Bay, or Pahiatua is to Masterton in the Wairarapa. By having the respective fists of subscribers in those towns included with Manawatu entries, business would be greatly helped. The request has been forwarded by Mr. Wallace to Wellington. He said in an interview to-day that the proposal would receive every consideration, but he wished to point out that the telephone books as at present printed were essentially for the use of subscribers to a particular exchange. If the number of an outside subscriber was wanted the subscriber’s own exchange would supply it. Further, business men requiring a list of numbers of outside firms had only to apply tc obtain it.
