BACK GARDEN TRENCHES
ANTI-GAS PRECAUTIONS
United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON. March 29. The anxiously awaited Government memorandum o n air raid precautions states that no single comprehensive plan of evacuation is practicable. Civilians should remain in their homes and offices but in the event of war the Government probably will have systems of trenches dug all over the public parks. Back garde n trenches six feet deep would b e arnoug the most effective air raid shelters.
The memorandum emphasises that anti-gas preparations are justified from the viewpoint of preventing panic and strengthening morale. It is assumed that householders and business films would provide pro tection for themselves and their employees, but it is recognised that the streets may be crowded and so public shelters would be necessary. A survey of these and other jioints is expected to take some months.
