THE LATE JOHN HARRISON
LAID TO REST ON SUNDAY. There passed away at his residence Alangahao Road. Pahiatua, on the 26th March an old identity of the Pahiatua and Eketahuna district in the person of Air John Harrison, known among his friends as “honest Jack.” Born in Yorkshire at Kirk by Lonsdale, he came to New Zealand 45 years ago and was engaged in I arming on the property of the late Air M urray-Ainsley From there he cann to Eketahuna where lie stalled m the butchery business, by cairying his own basket. 1 1 l 1901 he married Alis> Ann Cartwright. By dint ol hard work and perseverance lie prospered until by 1904 la was weli established in the town. While in Eketahuna he took an active interest in borough affairs, being a member of the Chamber of Cloinmeree, school committee, municipal band and Borough Council. At this time he also made a short visit to the old country.
During the last thirteen years he has been in business in Pahiatua where he lias made innumerable friends He leaves a wife and three daughters to mourn their loss. Airs H. Wimsett (Ashburton), Mrs C. L. Matthews (Russell), Airs K. Taylor (Pahiatua). His only son, Dick, predeceased him sonic two years ago.
The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon when a large gathering of town and country people assembled to pay their last respects. Rev. H. Wil son conducted a brief service at St. Peter's prior to the inteiment.
Members of the Alasonic lodge were also present in force the funeral ritual of this order being carried out by officers of the Lodge Tararuu. The pall bearers were Alessrs Drvsdale (2), G Bailey. T. Paget, A. W. White and W. A. Cittadini.
