ELECTRICITY SWITCHED ON. THURSDAYS CK'. KB II ATI ON DANCE. A very successful dance to 1 brute the coming of the electric power into Alakuri was held in the Alakuii hall on Thursday loth, borne 200 people being present, including visitors from Tanianga. Pongaron, liyauniea, Eketahuua and surrounding districts The Hall Committee is very much indebted to the Tararua Power Board and stall' for the loan and erection of so many coloured lights both within and outside the hall. These made a most charming and effective display, greatly enhancing the nsuai decorations and contrasting attractivelv with the green foliage, all of which showed up the many prettyfrocks to good advantage Air Drausfield. chairman of the Hall Committee expressed the pleasure at seeing so many members of the Tararua Power Board and staff present and voiced the committee s appreciation of the generous help given in decorating the hall.

Air J. D. Wilson, chairman of the Tararua Power Board lu his reply, spoke of the advancement of the district in the present time in comparison with the early pioneering days he remembered so well. Air Wilson also expressed the hope that the entire district under the control of the Tararua Power Board would soon enjoy the benefit and comfort of the electric power. Air Taylor, secreta 17 -manages of the Tararua Power Board spoke of the wonder of electricity and expressed the Board’s satisfaction that the distribution of the pow.er was now an established fact in Alakuri. The music supplied by the popular Ragamuffin orchestra was enjoyed by all and Aliss Belshaw’s and Miss Buckingham’s extras were greatly appreciated. Air J. Taylor’s kindness in controlling the lights was responsible _ for many picturesque effects-—especially in the confetti and twilight dances. The Alante Carlo dance was won by Aliss C. Austin and Air Hillas. while the winners of the Lucky Spot waltz were Miss Coutts and partner. Airs Dransfield was the fortunate winner of a largo tin of sweets. Thanks were, expressed to the ladies for supplying tfne greater part of a most enjoyable supper, and to Air G. Wilton, of Pori, who acted as doorkeeper and. to All C. C. Berry and Air h. Raisin who were the capable Ms.C
