WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

M A KURI MEET! NG. The February meeting of the Makuri Women’s Institute was held at Te Rata, the residence of Mrs D. Rutherford Mrs Jennings presided and the meeting opened with the singing ot the National Anthem. Members stood in silence as a mark of sympathy Queen Mary and the Royal The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed and nominations taken for the new committee. Mrs Paterson, Dominion President. was the guest of honour and on rising to speak was warmly welcomed and presented with a posy by little Jill Tylee. Mrs Paterson gave a very interesting account of the making o.f a “Garden of Peace” in the United States and Canada. Short extracts from “Horne and Country” and accounts of Women’s Institute activities in Scotland, Australia, Canada and Ireland were read by Mesdames Menken, R. Smart, C. B. Tylee and Rutherford. A “General Knowledge'" competition arranged by Mrs J. P. Tylee was won by Mrs C. Moore. A very enjoyable time was spent in the garden which, in spite of the reoen t storms, was looking very beautiful. Mrs Gregorio proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Rutherford for her hospitality.
