Speaking at the meeting of the Mangatainoka Young Farmers’ Club last night, Mr S. Freeman, provincial secretary of the Wairarapa Young Farmers" Club, said the Pahiatua A. and P. Association had paid the young farmers’ movement a compliment by putting on judging competitions at the coming show, and said it behoved members to enter now that the clubs’ existence had been recognised.

Yesterday an employee of the Tui Brewery Company at Mangatainoka named A. Macpherson. aged 22, was engaged at a circular saw bench and by mischance his hand came in contact with the saw, which almost severed the first joint- of liis middle left-hand finger. He was immediately taken to Dr. H. T. Dawson’s surgery where the finger was dressed and put in splints, and there is every possibility of the joint being saved, despite the fact that the bone was nearly cut through.

In the early hours of yesterday morning there passed away peacefully at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr David McGregor, Papatawa, Woodville, the Reverend Robert Gardner, who was until a few years ago Minister in charge of St. David’s Presbyterian Church, Woodville. Although he retired after a ministry at St. David’s of about 23 years owing to failing health, the deceased gentleman had been about as usual and on the previous Monday evening he had attended a public function to farewell the departing minister of his old church. Mr J. Stewart. On that occasion the Rev. Gardner had delivered a fine address on behalf of the congregation and made the presentation.
