THE POWERS PACT.

ITALY TO PROTEST. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraphy—Copyri girt. LONDON. January 24. The Alorning Post’s. Rome correspondent says Italy intends strongly to protest against the British memorandum to the Dague Council revealing that the British, French. Greek, Yugo-slav and Turkish Gov** ernments have pledged mutual assistance* in the Alediterranean in the event of an attack as* outlined by Air Eden on January 22. The Italian reply will assert that such precautions are uncalled for, especially in view of Alussolini s repeated assurances that Italy has no intention of attacking Britain. Italy, it is declared, does not want to make the war between Italy and Abyssinia more than a colonial one, and in view of .this, the possibility of an attack on the British Fleet is said to be ridiculously out of the question. COUNCI L ADOPTs REPORT. GENEVA, January 23. The League Council, Baron Aloisi abstaining, adopted the Committee of Thirteen*s report on the Italian and Abyssinian dispute. There will, therefore, be no i.ew diplomatic move in connection with the* war till the technical inquiry regarding the* effectiveness of oil sanctions is completed.
