BUILDERS AND PERMITS.

ARE BY-LAWS ADHERED TO? At last- night’s meeting oi the Pahiatua. Borough Council Cr. Siddi lls took, exception to the erection of buildings in the Borough without plans of same being first submitted to the building inspector. The Town Clerk said that in the case referred to by Cr Siddells he had been advised by the property owner that he had bought a building in another town which he intended to shift to Pahjatua, demolish and re-build. The Clerk had been given the particulars of the building by the owner, and a. later inspection of the building showed that it. complied with the by-laws in every respect save height. ' /!*. Siddells said the reason he had brought the matter up was that, since the earthquake, many firi3 buildings had been re—built in Pahiatua, and he thought that steps should be taken to prevent the erection of unsuitable types. The Mayor agreed with this view and said it was necessary for new buildings to comply with, the bylaws. Cr. Brown: “Is it not a fact that som<> buildings are commenced without- any permits having been granted ?’ 9 The Alayor answered in tlie affirmative, and went on to point out that before the Council could grant such permits the inspector should approved same. Cr. Afuroll was of tlie opinion that th".i building by-laws were out of date and wanted revising.
