Ihe Pahiatua Borough Council is doing its utmost to push along its proposals for making an auxiliary water supply for the town, and after the IXeember meeting of the Council the Clerk communicated with the beneficiaries trustees of the Balfour and Stevens Estates in an endeavour to secure a section oi land necessary .ior this project, and in reply Messrs. JDuncan Cotterill and Co., Christchurch, notified the Council at its last night that the benefi>hjries were prep tired to- sell an e ighth of an acre of land for water supply purposes for £*loo. The owners are to have restn ed an easement giving an unrestricted right to all water flowing above or below the surface of the rest o: the property ior all purposes connected with the Estate, whether it continues to be worked as* a whole or as subdivided. Ihe trustees of the Estate are not to be liable to contribute to the cost ot any dividing fence, cud the Borough Council must either fence off the land purchased oi take such steps as may be necessary to prevent any injury to stock. The~ trustees also declined to accept liability to damage done by sfook trespassing on the .land purchased.
