tKREM OX V AT PAHIATUA. In response to an intimation from tlie Mayor (Mr J. J>. Wilson) citizens of Pahiatua assembled in large numbers at the town flag pole to hear the reading of tlie Proclamation. The notice Issued by the* Mayor was as follows: “To all citizens, advice of Proclamation.— The accession of His Majesty King Edward Vlll. will be proclaimed at Parliament Buildings this morning at 11 a.m. and I am requested by tlie Prime Minister to read the Proclamation at tlie same hour to the public of this district. The public are requested to observe holiday between the hours of 10 a.m. and noon in honour of the occasion. The Proclamation will be read at the town flag pole. (Signed) J. I). Wilson, Mayor.” Before Mayor advanced to speak the Union Jack, which had been fluttering sadly at half-mast, was run to the top of the flag pole where it will remain until to-mor-row. Ur. A W . Bisset. chairman of the Pahiatua County Council, was associated with the Mayor in the reading of the proclamation. Alter the National Anthem had been sung the Band played tho Invercargill and Slaidburn marches. THE PROCLAMATION ‘•Whereas it hath pleased Almighty God to call to His mercy our late sovereign lord. King George the Filth, of blessed and glorious memory, by whose decease the Imperial Crown of Great Britain, Ireland and other of his late Majesty's Dominions, is solely and rightfully come to tin* high and mightv Prince Edward Albert Christian ‘ George Andrew Patrick David, we therefore, George Vere Arundel I. Viscount Galway, the Governor-General of the Dominion of New Zealand, and Michael Joseph Savage, Prime Minister of tlie said Dominion, and the members of the Executive Council of the said Dominion, assisted by members of both Houses of the General Assembly, Judges and Magistrates, ministers of religion, Mayors, chairmen and members of local bodies and numerous other crepresentative European and Maori citizens here present, do now hereby with one voice and consent of tongue and heart, publish and proclaim that the high and mightv Prince Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David is now by the death of our late sovereign of happy memory, become mir only lawful and rightful liege I.jord Edward the Eighth bv the Grace of God of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the seas. King, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India, to whom we do acknowledge all faith and constant obedience with all hearty and humble affection, beseeching God by whom Kings and Queens do reign, to bless the Royal Prince Edward the Eighth with loim and happy years to reign over us. Given at Wellington in the Dominion of New Zealand, this twenty-third day of January, in the year of our Lord, ono thousand nine hundred and tliirty-six.’”
