COMING OF AGE. \j the Foresters* Hall on 1 liesday evening Mr and Mrs George Jones entertained tlieir many triends at a bright party given in honour of the twenty-first birthday ot their son Gerald. The popularity ot this young man call be gauged b% thjgreat number of guests numbering about four hundred host of visitors including p. rties from Palmerston North, Daninvirke Wellington, Masterton and surrounding districts. The gathering must be ranked as one "the most memorable in the hlstorc or Pahiatua for tlie ball just seethed with a merry throng. Mrs Jones, with the readv ;:~mstance of many friends, had obviously gone to a great deal of troub e and hi her characteristically thorough manner had done everything possible to cater for the enjoyment of her countless guests. The spurious supper room was attractively transformed into a, cosy lounge, being decorated with large bowls of cherry blossom and Iris and here the bridge players indulged in a friendly game, the winners being Mr and Mr- W . A. Cittadini. In the mam hall the younger folk (and some <»i the 1«1er ones too) danced merrily to -pirited music supplied by Messrs Peter Jackson and B. Olsen, extras being kindle placed by Mesdames \\ . H. March and Alec Tait, Miss Beresford Messrs Lawrence Hartley and Jack Cornford. Mr Ron. Smith made a most capable M.C. and kept things going at concert pitch. Several specialty numbers proved to l>e most enjoyable. Delightni ] toe and tap dances were given by- Miss Joyce Howe, of Dannevirke. and one of her small pupils, little Margaret Smith, aged 4) years. I his dnintv little maid also sang prettily and received hearty reception the crowd. Another very popular item was a hula dance rendered in characteristic style by Miss 1 stare, of Dannevirke. Finally, Air A -op, of lira u men. gave a clever <•:, tioH of tap dancing which also gave much pleasure. An interval came early in the evening when Air E. H . D*tt paid high tribute to the guest. The large birthday cake with its 21 candles was duly cut within sight of all and a hearty toast was drunk t" the tune of musical honours, foil >wed by hearty cheers for Gerald and then Air and Airs Jones. The guest of the evening briefly responded, fittingly expressing bis thanks to all those who had so willingly helped to make the party such a huge success. In congratulating Gerald on attaining his majority Air Dett presented him with the traditional key, an unusually large one of novel design. An abundant home-made was a feature of a jolly party. The wonderful display of ns< ; gifts was t-ntple testimony of the goodwill of the company and the recipient expressed his grateful thanks for the kindness of the guests.
