HEALTH GAMP CAMPAIGN.

SPLENDID LOCAL EFFORT. OVER £2O RAISED. Ihe public sympathy which the Health Camp Campaign has arousec<. was manifested in no uncertain manner when the local committee staged its initial “attack” for this most worthy of causes on Saturday, the sum of slightly over £2O being the net result of the day’s effort anti this sum will be further augmented by some subscription lists n °t yet to hand. /at °ti past we °k the secretary (Ml H. R, Oigg) has been busy organising and arranging for donations to the gift shop; for subscript^ on lists _to be distributed and for street and house-to-house collections so that, at an early hour on Saturciay, every tiling was ready and promptly under way. Gifts for the shop came in regularly and were of a generous qualify and assortment while, periodically, the energetic little boy scouts very elated, returned‘ with their collecting tins jingling merrily. The girl guides, too-, were present in force and were responsible for augmenting the funds to the extent ot £3 0s 6d (a very fine contribution to ihe day’s total), besides making themselves generally useful m many ways. By 4.30 p.m., a complete clearance of goods, had been effected and tiie shop was closed shortly afterwards.

Th e boys, however, continued their good work and not until 8 p.m. could they be persuaded to leave in peace a most good-natured generous public. I he task of counting the contents of the sealed tins was then undertaken by the Treasurer (Mr C. S. Carr ad, postmaster) and the secretary). Eight tins were checked and the splendid total of £8 4s 64 was the result.

Every boy worked wonderfully but. without unduly individualising, special mention simply must be made of 7hat happy, smiling-faced little man, Alec- Thomson, of Wakeman Street. His unlimited energy and happy manner resulted in him turning in the large sum of £3 3s “i'i or over one-third of the total collections of the eight tins. Good boy, Alec!

And now, a word of sincere thanks to all who, in any way, contributed to the success of this effort; to the general public for its practical assistance, Mr H. Watson for the use of his shop, Miss C. McKenny and her band of willing helpers in the fchop, to the boy scouts and girl guides and the press for their ready and valued co-opera-tion.

Those who assisted on Saturday were: Gift shop. Mass C. McKenny and Mesdames E. Etz, X. Trussing, McClurg, W. H. Purdie, Lyon, R. C. Austin and H. Paterson- guides, Misses J. Watts, S. Lew, X. Hewitt, W. Say well, B. Biggar, I. Barraclougli and P. Paget; scouts, D. Watts, K. Goer, M. Mason, A. Car rad, E. Staples, A. Thomson, J. Adams, F. Scott, M. Fair-weather, K ; Paterson and I). Mitchell. Two competitions were won by the following: Nil's E.. Beales (box of tea) and Mr V. Xation (lady’s w rail).
