When the French tennis championships were continued to-day tin* courts were heavy and damp and did not suit the Australians, all of whom however, showed excellent form, McGrath giving his best,.display of the tour. Crawford was never extended out of a leisurely rhythm. Menzel proved too strong for Quist on a court not to the Australian's liking. Menzel attacked furiously and both players gave a delightful exhibit ion. Hopman. registered a noteworthy performance in vanquishing the South African - Farquharson in straight sets. It was a battle of rollovers and Hopman was invariably the quicker. Results are:— Men’s Singles.—Third round : Crawford defeated Pallada 6-—l, G—3. 6—4 ; Hopman defeated Farquliarson, 6—2, (3—3, G—l ; Merlin defeated Malacek, G—2. 4— 6. 4—6, 6 —l, G—2; Oaska defeated Henkel. 3—6, 6—4, 6—3. G—2 ; Bernard defeat ed Hines, 3—6. B—Li. G—3, G—4; de Stefan i defeated Feret, 2—G, G—4, 6—2, 7—5.
Fourth round: Menzel defeated Quist, 6—4, 2—G. G—O. G—2; von (Tamm defeated Heeht, G—3, 7—5, G—2.
